Last few workouts

Ok, so I missed a workout one day last week.  Now it's going to be hard to remember what all I did.  I know for a fact I did those horrible exercises where I'm on my knees and George stands on my feet and I lean forward and pull myself back.  I did 3 sets of 10 of those.  I think I did the Nordic Track also and beyond that I don't remember.

Friday's workout was awesome.  George took me to the hill behind his house and had me run up it.  First we walked up it on the path to kinds see how my breathing was because of my cold.  Then we walked back down to a spot where I could go straight up it, making my own way without a trail.  I walked up it once, came back down and then I ran up it.  It was tough!  Right as I got to the top I felt like my legs were going to give out, but I did it!  So I walked back down and took a little break to catch my breath and then he had me run it again.  I was able to run almost all the way up the 2nd time, then the last few steps I walked.....I was done.  I walked back down and that was the end of my workout.  It was tough and I felt like puking at the top, but I did it and that's all that matters!

I went and visited my cousin over the weekend and had an amazingly awesome time and we took 2 longs walks, but sitting in the car for the 2 hour trip there and the 2 hour trip home has caused my hips to ache a little more than normal.  Also from coughing so hard I have pulled a muscle on the left and right sides of my abs and so I'm super sore when I cough or move a certain way....lame.

But I was back at the gym today.  Rode the Nordic Track for 30 minutes.  Did 3 sets of 15 pullovers on the Total Gym, 3 sets of 15 Tris on the total gym, then I did 40 v-ups and 25 hip ups.  So that is where I'm at.  I'll be back tomorrow.

Days 16 and my Charity

So this cold that I have totally sucks and has again set me back in my training.  George doesn't want to push me too hard and have me get worse so this has been an easy week.

Thursday I rode the Nordic Track for 20 minutes normal and then 10 hard and then a couple of minutes of cool down.  For abs I did 25 hip ups, 20 single leg v-ups and 20 toe touches.  That was it.
I'm heading back today.

I don't know if any of you know this about me, but I have a heart and passion to raise awareness of the human trafficking epidemic.  My goal is to use my race to raise money for an organization that I feel God has put on my heart called Make Way Partners.  Here is a link to their website:

http://www.makewaypartners.org/

I have a goal of raising $1,000 for their general fund.  There are a few ways that you can donate....you can donate directly to their organization, just make sure you note that it's for Katie Lynch - Running for Freedom Half-Marathon.  You can also give donations to me and I can send them in.  You can pledge to donate a certain amount of money per mile, say $4 a mile, which would come out to $52, that's just an example.

I am planning on hosting a dinner before my run and I have information to hand out for anyone who is interested.  In the meantime please check out their website, it's an amazing organization with a heart and passion to take care of and love those that are in desperate need of being loved.

Thank you!

Days 13, 14 and 15

Ok, so last Thursday would have been day 13 and I did the Nordic Track.  Started off doing 15 minutes normal, 5 minutes fast, 5 minutes slow, 5 minutes fast and 5 minutes slow.  Then I did 3 sets of 25 single leg calf raises.

Friday I worked out with Karen and this is what we did:

3x10 Supported rows 25 lbs
3x10 Banded lat pull ins red bands
3x10 rear delts
3x10 db curls
15 minutes nordic track
30 straight leg sit ups with the medicine ball
30 hip ups
30 knees to chest

I ended up getting a yucky cold over the weekend so I didn't get to run.  I did walk 2 miles on Saturday.  Sunday I laid around all day.

Today I got to work out with Zack and Kyle...this is what I did:
15 minutes Nordic track (light because I'm sick)
3x10 db bench 20 lbs
3x10 shoulder press 15 lbs
3x10 laterals 10 lbs
3x10 french overhead presses 10 lbs
3x15 pull downs
15 Phipps sits with a twist
30 hip ups
30 toe touches

I went back to the orthopedic surgeon today.  Looks like I might be a candidate for the arthroscopic surgery after all.  I will meet with another dr who specializes in that kind of surgery to see if it would benefit me.  I guess there is a slight possibility that the pain could get worse.  He said I'm in a gray area because I'm getting along fine and doing what I want now and handling the pain fine, but if we could do the surgery and it would take most of the pain away then that would be awesome....so I guess I'll talk to the other dr and get more details.  I think they will probably end up doing an MRI to find out just how bad the damage is....so we shall see.

Day 12

No gym for me today.  Dakota got her braces off though!  That was exciting, she looks awesome!  I got the ok to run 2 miles today!  Woo hoo!!!!  I was soooo excited!  I had to take 3 advil 45 minutes before my run and tonight I definitely have to ice bath and lay with my feet up for 45 minutes.  But my run was amazing!  I ran the 2 miles in 20 minutes, with no hip pain!  Yay!!!!  I love running days!!

Day 10

Today I was on the Nordic Track for 30 minutes and then laid on the floor with my knees up on a bench for about 15 minutes.  For abs I did 40 crunches with my knees on the bench and 40 hip-ups.  For fun....and by fun I mean fun for George, not me....he had me do some seriously wicked exercise, I don't know what it was called by I was on my knees and he stood on my feet and I put my arms across my chest and then with my upper body totally straight I would lean forward just a tiny bit and then pull myself back....yea, I did 2 of those and the backs of my legs totally cramped!  I pushed him off of my feet!  His first comment, after he quit chuckling, was that we definitely need to do those more!   That was it for today, my hips were pretty sore from doing nothing yesterday

The Weekend

I haven't been to the gym since Thursday....UGH!  I always hate it when I have to miss so many days in a row.  Friday I was able to run 1.5 miles in 14 minutes, so that was great!  Saturday I asked my trainer if I could run and he lovingly replied via text....no, no, no.....Yea, 3 no's!  Really?  Apparently I might be a touch difficult at times....imagine that!  Anyway, so I went for a 3 mile walk instead.  It was good....my hips were killing me.  I had  a few glasses of wine and sat in a cold bath last night to try and get some relief, it helped a bit.  Today I didn't have time to do anything and I did a lot of sitting so my hips are hurting pretty bad.  I'm going to talk a little about eating today.  I have noticed that on the days when I make healthy food choices I feel so much better all the way around.  Today, since it was Super Bowl and we went to a party I didn't eat as great as I normally do and I feel horrible, mentally as well as physically.  I try to follow the blood type diet, after years of being a non-believer of it I finally decided to give it a try this year.  It's not really a diet, it's really just eating foods that are best for your blood type.  You see, my mom was type A and she had stomach cancer, well I found out that type A's have a very high rate of stomach cancers when they don't eat according to their blood type, but when they do eat accordingly the rates drop drastically.  And I am a type A, so I figured what the heck!  It can't hurt.
I also want to talk about FAI tonight.

I am re-posting this from another blog called Understanding FAI:

There is a common thread among those diagnosed with FAI. We are a community of people whose life, leisure and identity are tied to athletics. Now, take that away and replace it with chronic pain and limited activity. If you are the caregiver or loved one of a person with FAI listen up. It's a long and painful journey, filled with grief, exhaustion, fear and pain. But with your help it can also be full of healing, hope, love and self-accomplishment. But one thing is for certain, it cannot be traveled alone.

One of the biggest challenges of FAI is that nobody can see it, it's not like I broke my leg or something of that nature.  It doesn't keep me from doing every day activities, it only keeps me from doing the activities that I love and even that it doesn't completely stop me from doing, but it does make the pain worse, which then limits how often I can run.  But I have found that it really doesn't matter, sitting, laying, walking, running, standing....I am in constant pain all the time and I never ever get any relief....ever.  Now I am not writing about this for sympathy, but rather so you will have a better understanding of why me running the half marathon is such a big deal and why I wanted to blog about it, so later I can look back at all that I overcame and accomplished.  Ok, that's it for tonight.  Please be praying for me, because along with chronic pain comes depression and all kinds of other emotional issues.  But I am strong in Christ and I have a great personal trainer who is very careful with me, so I will definitely be victorious!
